Longer life for angular contact ball bearings
SKF's series of angular contact ball bearings has now been added to the Explorer family of products.
SKF's series of angular contact ball bearings has now been added to the Explorer family of products, which give an average of three times longer service life, under both clean and contaminated operating conditions, than any other manufacturer's product.
By modifying the geometry of the raceways and changing the manufacturing process, SKF has also been able to increase the axial load carrying capacity of the angular contact ball bearings.
This increase in power density allows engineers to use smaller bearings for applications and so opens the door to new designs that are lighter and more energy efficient.
As well as an increase in power density, the technical improvements allow existing machines to benefit from extended service lives or increases in power output.
The designer's choice will depend on customer and application requirements.
With the longer life expectancies leading to reduced maintenance costs, the new angular contact ball bearings are ideally suited to applications such as compressors, pumps, fans, windmills, gearboxes and turbines.
As well as the increased lifespan, new machinery that has been sized-down will run quieter, cooler and with less vibration.
Existing equipment can also immediately benefit from longer lifespans and quieter running, as the Explorer range is dimensionally interchangeable with conventional bearings of ISO designs.
The incorporation of the angular contact ball bearings into the Explorer family is expected to be followed by further SKF bearing types within the next year.
