New standard for cylindrical roller bearings
Cylindrical roller bearings are the latest products to be added to SKF's Explorer class - a new performance standard that provides a substantial improvement in bearing life and performance.
Fan upgrades cut maintenance costs
SKF fan upgrade solutions employ self-aligning bearings, advanced plummer (pillow) block housings and automatic lubrication systems.
Seals boost food production safey
SKF Economos' new seals can be quickly and simply found with standard metal detection equipment should any small pieces fall into the product being processed.
In joining the Explorer range, the CRBs benefit from significantly reduced impurities in the bearing steel which adds strength to the raceways.
Optimised heat treatment delivers high dimensional stability and long life, and an improved surface finish and optimised internal geometry gives better lubrication and load distribution.
Thanks to the increased dynamic load carrying capacity, the SKF Explorer CRBs enable either downsizing or upgrading the strength and performance of existing assemblies.
New arrangements of identical performance can be designed smaller and more compact, which saves material and improves power density.
A smaller bearing also provides the benefits of having a lower operating temperature, as well as issuing lower noise and vibration levels.
An SKF Explorer CRB, with the same outside diameter yet smaller section height, also allows an increased shaft size for a stiffer overall design.
With improved maintenance intervals leading to less downtime and a reduction in replacement parts helping to reduce costs, the SKF Explorer CRBs are also ideal for fitting as replacements for conventional CRBs to upgrade existing machinery.
CRBs are the best choice for applications where very high radial loads and high speeds must be accommodated, along with minimum frictional losses.
They provide the ideal solution as nonlocating bearings and are used in applications where thermal expansion of shaft or housing must be compensated for inside the bearing, with a minimum of friction.
However, cylindrical roller bearings can also be used as locating bearings as, being of separable design, one bearing ring with roller and cage assembly is mounted separately from the other bearing ring.
Other SKF Explorer bearing types are being developed and will be launched during 2003. Request a free brochure from SKF UK ...
