Super-tough sealing material aimed at
fluid power
Economos has launched a completely new sealing material, designed to set even higher standards for seal longevity in applications particularly noted for punitive rates of seal failures.
Seal manufacturers Economos have launched a completely new sealing product, designed to set even higher standards for seal longevity in applications particularly noted for their punitive rates of seal failures With their new material, Ecotuf, Economos have produced another innovative solution promising enhanced performance across a range of what are regarded as especially destructive seal environments

Seals boost food production safey
SKF Economos' new seals can be quickly and simply found with standard metal detection equipment should any small pieces fall into the product being processed.
Although the internationally-renowned specialist seal manufacturer already features a successful heavy duty sealing material known as Ecotal amongst its extensive product range, ever-increasing manufacturing sophistication and the drive for improved performance has created a demand for an even more specialist, high performance seal component.
Economos' clients in the manufacturing sector have asked for an alternative sealing material geared specifically to cope with the particular stresses of extreme fluid power applications in cylinders and actuators.
In such functions it is critical that both piston and gland not only operate within well configured bearing parameters, but that their housings are also designed to minimise the acute friction problems inherent in the resulting metal to metal contact.

Previously, Economos had helped reduce the premature failure rates of its customers' machinery by providing them with bearings manufactured in Ecotal, already extensively used in both pneumatic and hydraulic applications.
However, there remained some applications, particularly those of an especially heavy-duty nature, where it was evident that bearings made from a laminated material might cut failure rates even further.
Ecotuf was conceived to fill this important manufacturing need.
Ecotuf is a polyester fabric bonded in a polyester resin matrix.
Its composition imbues it with exceptional physical strength and mechanical durability, giving it a high compressive strength and chemical resistance.
Importantly, Ecotuf's unusual complex structure also enables it to absorb debris during operations, which will further extend the bearing's life span.
Economos are targeting Ecotuf's use in any application needing a stable, heavy-duty bearing.
The company sees its primary applications as initially for use in large cylinders and actuators within being in the steel mill and maritime markets, as well as other applications involving extreme side loads.
Paul Chambers, Economos' UK Sales and Marketing Director, said: "In line with Economos' proven and successful research and development ethos, Ecotuf has been introduced to meet a specific need identified by our customers.
Where they have unusually heavy duty operations involving bearing surfaces working in especially destructive conditions, Ecotuf is the answer". Request a free brochure from SKF UK ...
