Economos have launched a new flange test seal which they claim is not only superior in performance to rubber seals, but is also reusable and so will cut costs.

The new seal, marketed under the name Eco Flange, is made from Economos's star polyurethane material, H-Ecopur.

With many different variants of the versatile Ecopur material in production, each formulated to meet specific industrial applications or conditions, Economos has already carved out a commanding share of the UK and European specialist industrial seal market.

While the new Eco Flange test seal has been designed to fit all standard R, RX and BX series of housings, and comes available in any diameter, it is the product's unique reusability which Economos predicts makes it a sure-fire winner.

Although H-Ecopur has already proven itself a premier sealing material and has become market leader in many applications, Economos's engineers are ever on the lookout for other areas where it can be adapted for additional use.

While working with their industrial customers the Economos engineers noted that many were having to perform frequent testing of the alignment surface profile and integrity of pipe flanges, and that the traditional seals being employed could only be safely used once.

H-Ecopur's toughness and durability, they realised, made it ideal for such checks: it had a high integrity rating, was resistant to damage and H2S, and was more durable than the conventional seals in use.

With Economos's usual flair for innovation, it was not long before the Eco Flange was developed and launched.

Paul Chambers, Economos's Sales and Marketing Director, said: "This was a classic case of our engineers spotting a ready-made opportunity for H-Ecopur's special properties: it is media resistant, robust, far better than proprietary materials, and - its prime USPs - any size, any profile and it's reusable many times over, so saves on costs.".
