Specialist seal company Economos is to launch a new fast-track production and delivery service based on seven highly developed variants of one of the sealing industry's most widely used workhorse sealing materials, PTFE Economos has introduced seven new high-performance grades of PTFE, designated Ecoflon 1 through to Ecoflon 7, all aimed at the spring energised lip seal market and well as for use in pumps, valves and composite seals

PTFE is already an established and successful sealing material for many years, being favoured over other conventional sealing materials such as polyurethane's and rubbers in specialist applications because of its high-temperature resistance, inertness to most media, no tool costs and other advantages.
However, says Economos, the relative ease-of-machining PTFE has often led to production of sub-standard components amongst some of the smaller, less quality-conscious manufacturers who do not possess the technical skills necessary to design and manufacture there high performance products.
The seven grades of Ecoflon, says Economos Sales and Marketing Director Paul Chambers, have not only been developed to meet specific applications, but also carry the back-up of Economos' highly-respected quality control: "Each grade is further supplemented with other PTFE-based materials, which takes their operating parameters to over 260C, as well as providing other outstanding mechanical properties." Economos aims to offer a three-day delivery for its standard Ecoflon seal range up to 200mm diameter, or one week for 500mm diameter from any of its 12 UK-wide manufacturing centres.
For larger sizes, up to 4 metres in diameter generally delivery is within three weeks.
Along with its fast-track facility, Economos is also offering customers the expertise of its designers who can advise on non-standard applications.
