Water-jet cutting creates seals for any need
The Water-Jet system, recently up-graded by Economos, is capable of slicing through virtually any material, ranging from foam packing to sheets of steel, marble blocks and even plates of titanium
The Water-Jet system has recently been modified and up-graded by specialist seal manufacturer Economos.
The system which employs an ultra-high-pressure, needle-thin jet of water is capable of slicing through virtually any material, ranging from foam packing right up to sheets of steel, marble blocks and even plates of titanium, together with the CNC Lathe turned seals, for which they are well known.
This completes the boast that they can provide the complete sealing solution for all industrial needs.
Under an enormous 50,000psi (3500 bar) of pressure, the Water-Jet propels a slim needle of water at a speed equivalent to Mach 3, enabling it to cut cleanly and accurately through almost anything.
With no need for tooling and using its advanced CAD/CAM technology, the Water-Jet can directly input any design and go on to produce a precisely accurate, fully finished product in minutes.
The system's versatility, say Economos, allows almost any size and shape of item to be cut, and is perfect for producing either one-off prototypes or for mass production.
Economos' Sales and Marketing Director Paul Chambers said that it hadn't been long before Water-Jet's fast production advantages were being appreciated by its customers, especially those for whom a rapid turnaround on low or medium volume runs was important: "Since Water-Jet doesn't need tooling and designs can be fed straight into its system, customers quickly picked up on just how cost-effective it can be.
The system's ability to enable changes to be easily made to a product's design or specification has certainly been a big plus in its favour, but it is Water-Jet's fast-track production which has really made it such a big success with our customers." From its 12 manufacturing centres across the UK, Economos is intending to convert more of its customers to the Water-Jet system, and are expecting its accelerated production capabilities to be especially attractive to the electronics, food and motor sport industries.
