When a leading manufacturing chemist reported frequent unscheduled downtime while pumping an abrasive suspension of Magnesium Hydroxide in water, Cat Pumps (UK) teamed up with the specialist seal manufacturer Economos UK to design an innovative solution.

The problem identified, but with a production backlog at the chemist's plant nearing unmanageable proportions, time was of crucial importance.

Within hours, detail design of what was to be an Eco-Pak/PTFE seal assembly was completed.

The first units were manufactured and delivered the following day.

These prototype seal assemblies performed well, providing many times the life of the standard seal whose intended service had been non-particulate laden liquids.

A subsequent improvement to the design has meant seal life far beyond that demanded by the design brief and many a production run has since been completed without a single incidence of unscheduled downtime through high-pressure seal wear.

Paul Chambers, Sales and Marketing Director at Economos UK said; "The relationship between Economos and CAT Pumps spans many years as we both share the same customer focus, and a mutual desire to resolve challenging technical matters such as this".
