Already market leader in the design and production of seals for the pharmaceutical, design engineering, offshore and other industries, Economos is aiming to further strengthen its credentials in the food production sector by anticipating new safety and hygiene manufacturing standards to help in manufacturing processes.
In a move designed to establish Economos' position as the premier food seal manufacturer, the company has introduced a unique blue seal material to be supplied exclusively to the food industry.
The sealing material's special blue colour will enable manufacturers, in the unlikely event of a seal failure, to quickly spot extraneous material appearing during production and allow easier identification of its source.
Manufacturers have indicated that such a move would be warmly welcomed, as incidents involving production line components accidentally getting into the food product can result in heavy costs in lost production through line down time.
Key to the company's drive to securing new customers in the food and beverage industry has been the US Food and Drug Administration's accreditation for its top performing H-Ecopur polyurethane elastomer, from which the new blue seals are made.
H-Ecopur already overcomes high wear problems encountered in the food and beverages industries.
In addition, it is hydrolysis resistant and can be used in environments where hot water leads to either seal attack or galvanic corrosion of the metalwork.
An added attraction to food manufacturers is that H-Ecopur is also resistant to conventional CIP materials and processes.
Paul Chambers, Economos' Sales and Marketing Director, said: "As well as our H-Ecopur seals, our other food manufacturing seals are all FDA compliant.
While a lot of the food and drink industry are already using H-Ecopur because of its exceptional long life properties, our ability to deliver any size and profile, without the need for expensive tooling, by making the new blue seal available solely for this industry will be another big step forward in helping them eliminate expensive production problems".
With both Europe and the USA moving rapidly towards an international regulatory system of colour coding for components in food manufacturing, Economos' lead in advanced seal technology and its introduction of its food manufacturing-dedicated blue seal is set to maintain the seal giant's reputation as the industry's acknowledged seal leader.
