Economos takes on the SKF brand

A SKF UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 25, 2008

Move is part of a long term strategy to integrate the existing Economos manufacturing and customer support network around the world into SKF's global operation.

Economos, the industrial seals and engineering plastics manufacturer acquired in 2007 by SKF, is to be rebranded as SKF Economos.

The move is part of a long term strategy to integrate the existing Economos manufacturing and customer support network around the world into SKF's global operation, and to strengthen still further the ability of the overall operation to invest in new and innovative technologies for seals and engineering plastics.

SKF Economos specialises in the development and manufacture of hydraulic, pneumatic and specialist seals and engineering plastics for the oil and gas, food and beverage, pulp and paper, mining and steel industries.

In the UK, the company has a network of 12 regional seal manufacturing centres, which provide local design and production facilities for the fast turnaround of seals, gaskets and engineered plastic components.

This network is backed by a dedicated research, development and manufacturing centre at SKF Economos' headquarters in Austria, from where the company provides high volume production facilities, and by a sales and customer service centres in countries throughout the world.

Paul Chambers, Managing Director of SKF Economos UK, explains: "Although the rebranding of Economos to become SKF Economos may appear at face value to be a relatively minor step, it is actually an important stage in the company's evolution".

"In particular, it reinforces our position within the global SKF corporation and highlights the added value that we can now provide to all our customers around the world".

"For example, our fast prototyping and production services, through our local centres, allow customers in critical industries such as the offshore sector, to minimise downtime and cut maintenance costs".

"Perhaps as importantly, we now have access to the vast wealth of knowledge and experience within other parts of SKF, plus the financial backing of one of the world's largest industrial corporations; combined, these factors will provide real long term benefit in key business areas including new product development, and applications and technical support".
