Acquisition gets a grip on a wider range

A Schunk Intec product story

Schunk has continued to expand its product range by taking over the firm of Gemotec Montagetechnik of Huglfing in Bavaria.

The 35 employee company manufactures a complete product range for modular assembly technology, consisting of pneumatically and electrically operated linear units, gripper modules and swivel units.

The Gemotec components stand out for their high precision and are used primarily in assembly equipment for small components.

The wide and varied application range has extended from the production of electric switches to the assembly of vehicle instrument panels and solutions for the packaging industry.

The comprehensive range of products are modular in design and work in accordance with the motto "combine instead of construct".

This allows the creation of an individual assembly or multiple station system using standard components without having to resort to special designs.

Responsible for the Automation Division, Ralf Steinmann the Marketing and Sales Manager at Schunk comments: "For our company, the take-over of Gemotec represents the perfect complement to our own product range, from which we hope to achieve considerable synergies and significantly improved market coverage".

"Our customers can now obtain an extended, comprehensive range of standard gripper modules, which extends from the assembly of the most delicate sensors to the handling of engine blocks, therefore covering almost all areas of industry".

"In the application of swivel and linear modules, we are rounding off our range by the industrial use of proven Gemotec product ranges, which enable highly dynamic and very accurate handling and assembly solutions", says Steinmann.

With this take-over, Schunk is coming to terms not only with the continuing trend toward miniaturisation, but also to that of specific customer and sector production where flexible and versatile systems become increasingly critical.

An example of this is the new CLM compact linear modules from Schunk Gemotec.

The new CLM provides all the performance specifications of the tried and tested LM modules in a shorter more compact form.

With their hardened prism-type runners and pre tensioned junction rollers, the CLM provides a total system that is free from play and can absorb high forces from all directions despite its small size.

These new mini-slides are therefore suitable for high-precision applications and for use in areas with restricted space, the shock absorbers and proximity switches are integrated within the unit profile and do not produce any interfering contours.

The height and drilling patterns are identical to those of the LM linear module series.

This enables the modules to be interchanged and combined as desired to ensure they are compatible with all Gemotec system components without restriction.

Despite the small number of different types, these universal CLM modules can be put to use in a broad range of applications such as handling modules, slides or linear units.
