Schunk increases rigidity of Rota NCD power chuck

A Schunk Intec product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 16, 2009

Schunk Intec has made its Rota NCD three-jaw power chuck even more rigid, aiding the precision clamping of workpieces on lathes.

This chuck reduces set-up times and costs for users that process different workpieces on a single machine.

Its large chuck through-hole allows a variety of different bar diameters to be processed.

In this way, Schunk's collet jaw system prevents the chuck jaws from rising up.

The collet jaw system increases stability and reduces vibrations, allowing even the smallest bar diameters to be precisely clamped.

The Rota NCD can be combined with multiple top jaws to allow many types of ID and OD clamping.

The user can choose between imperial or metric-based serration.

A continuous T-slot in the base jaws allows extreme positions of the top jaws.

For the ID and OD clamping, long base jaw guides support the chuck jaws and enable high clamping forces in the long term.

All-round hardened and ground functional components guarantee a high degree of true running and repeat accuracy.

The wedge-bar system for power transmission and the low weight of the base jaws allow high rotational speeds.

The chuck allows the user to quickly change set-ups.

For example, the Rota NCD removes the need to switch between a collet chuck for bar machining and a conventional jaw chuck: for this chuck, only the collet jaws are exchanged for top jaws.

It also allows the user to perform various processes such as hard and soft turning in a set-up without changing the chuck.
