Fachhochschule Aalen joins SafetyBUS p Club
The SafetyBUS p Club International is announcing that Fachhochschule Aalen became a member in July 2004.
Making machinery safe by using electronic safety systems has become very important in recent years, both for the automation of machines and whole plants.
This is not least due to the continuing increase in the volume of communications, especially data traffic used to facilitate fault-tracing, process monitoring and CAQ (computer-aided quality) within the control environment.
Modern machines also make the same demands on their safety systems.
Safety fieldbus systems such as SafetyBUS p fulfil the requirements for having the necessary communication interfaces and are therefore also suitable for use in the university education of young engineers.
During the course of mechatronics study at Fachhochschule Aalen, Prof Juergen Baur uses multimedia training techniques for teaching, and the operational readiness lecture has been extended using on-line lectures and virtual teleworking.
In addition, a learning module on machine security in a manufacturing cell has been used to supplement the mechatronics laboratory, in which a SafetyBUS p system configures important safety functions in a PSS3006-ETH programmable safety system.
A PMI-226 CT visualisation platform is connected over the integrated ethernet interface so that process visualisation can also be demonstrated.
The examples in this article show how SafetyBUS p is being used in a multimedia learning environment at universities.
At the same time it also underlines the contribution being made by communications to manufacturing automation.
Fachhochschule Aalen became a member of SafetyBUS p Club International in July 2004.
Membership was signed during an visit to Aalen by Dr Richard Piggin and Dr Saito of Japan's NIIS (National Institute of Industrial Safety).
