Fast-fit end post keeps rails running

A Selectequip product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 6, 2002

The Dray Post from Selectequip offers a quick and economical answer to end post replacement.

Damaged or missing rail end posts can compromise the signalling and track safety systems for operators, but the installation of replacement end posts has traditionally also involved line closures with inevitable interruption to operating schedules, which has further compounded track maintenance problems.

However, the end post replacement available from Selectequip offers the quick and economical answer.

Called Dray Post, the product has been granted Railtrack approval certificate number PA05/978, and can be supplied in three thicknesses covering standard rail profiles 113A, 98lb and 95lb Bullhead.

Other rail profiles for operators worldwide could also be supplied to order.

The Dray Post is a two-part positive locking device, which can be fitted by one person, without the need for special tools, within 2-3min.

It does not require the time-consuming dismantling of the insulated block joint assembly, which also obviates the need and organisation to obtain costly track possession time.

There is a dramatic reduction in manpower requirements and labour costs, no stressing equipment is required, and there is no interruption of train schedules.

Manufactured from epoxy glass laminated sheet, a nonhygroscopic material used in standard, approved end posts, the Dray Posts are available in thicknesses of 4, 6 and 9mm.

Once any retained debris has been removed from a rail joint, the top section of the Dray Post is simply dropped into the rail gap.

It is held in position by the contoured shoulders which rest on the fishplate clamp.

The lower section of the Dray Post is then simply located from below and held in position with a hand-tightened nut.

The use of cyanoacrylate adhesive on the mating surface and a threadlocker will ensure a permanent and positive bond of the two sections.

Once installed, the Dray Post performs exactly as a one-piece end post and can help to minimise rail lipping at the joint.

It is also claimed to outperform other multisectional end posts on the market.
