SMC's range of process valves offer the user extensive options, whatever the industry, easily handling wide and diverse applications, such as air blow circuits, printing machines, textile milling, currency (notes) counting, biochemical analysis, water treatment, heating systems, and oil lines - in fact, the applications for these valves are endless.

However, selection of a process valve is crucial, not only should the chemical compatibility of the materials be taken into consideration, but the overall design of the valve and its operating mechanism.

With SMC's range of process valves there are three options in this respect direct operated solenoid, pilot operated solenoid, and air operated.

Direct operated solenoid valves are the best option for fast response applications, where large differential pressures are not a factor, therefore generally used in conjunction with small diameter piping (less than 0.75in).

They are compact and in most cases can be either individually mounted or manifold mounted for ease of replacement, as the piping does not have to be disassembled.

Series options cover the VDW, ultra compact for water and air, VCL for oils, VCB for water at a high temperature, VCA for air, VCW for water, VCS for steam, and VX21/22/23 for diverse fluids.

Pilot operated solenoid valves normally have a minimum operating differential pressure, and will not operate if the pressure across the diaphragm is below that required.

When an application requires high flow rates these valves are preferred, as they allow bigger internal orifices than direct operated valves.

Series VXD for diverse fluids, VXZ with zero differential pressure which is required for pipes operating a low differential pressure, or in vacuum conditions, and VXH for high pressure (up to 20bar, with water or air), are all pilot operated.

Air operated valves are the option of choice for treating viscous fluids or fluids which are dirty, such as coolants or cutting fluids.

Air valves can be used in areas where there are flammable gases, but would require ATEX certification.

Within this option are the VND for steam piping in process plants, the VNB for general use and the VNH series, which has been designed for soluble oils at high pressure.

These two-port processing valves are designed to meet general industrial standards, and are capable of long, trouble free life under stringent operating conditions.

Construction is simple, and many models allow various body materials, with various sealing elastomers.

This all ensures positive operation and media control.
