Simple solution to cable management and protection
Cablemat is a novel cost effective solution for the management of voice and data cable below raised floors.
Cablemat is a novel cost effective solution for the management of voice and data cable below raised floors.
The system is fast to install, yet light and very strong.
With the requirement for faster and faster data transmission that in turn evolved in the adoption of the Cat6 cabling systems.
Consideration must now be given to methods of installation and protection of these cables, which are now required to perform at many times the speed of the standard Cat5 cable.
It is no longer acceptable to run these cables in raised floor locations directly onto an uneven floor surface or to bump over the ribs in a standard cable basket, as this can induce deformation in the signal being transmitted.
Greater care is also required to ensure there is no ingress of water penetration in the wiring looms, as this again can effect the data transmission.
Water damage can come from many areas of local flooding, down the riser shaft as the building nears completion, a burst pipe, or defective tea machine.
All of these can cause sufficient water to cause a local flood if the cables are being laid directly onto the floor surface.
It should be remembered that a cable installation is not just for today but also to provide a lifetimes service.
To meet this level of cable support and protection the Cablemat Contaiment System has been developed.
Standard Cablemat is a lightweight, fire retardant, halogen free and anti static sheet, formed from10mm polypropylene.
Although lightweight it still exceptionally strong, yet easy to install and is cut to widths to suit any requirement.
It is available in range of colour options that can be used to indicate the varying cable routing layouts within a project.
Each section of the Cablemat can be simply butted to the next and jointed with an H-profile section which is colour matched to suit the matting.
Bends and intersections are also simple abutments, and the cutting and the forming are all undertaken by using a standard craft knife.
When using Cablemat, the standard 10mm thick format can also be supplied with additional sections formed into ramps and bridges to set the system over any other services that may be within the floor void area.
The standard Cablemat sheet can be factory formed to raise the cables of the floor up to any practical height, with a minimum of 30mm.
This system has been designed as a cableway, with provisions to also carry the weight of an average man, during cable installation.
Ramps, bridges, abutments are also formed with this product.
A combination of standard flat, and cableway Cablemat can be used to form a most cost effective system.
Some design consultants have used this to great advantage, by running the raised cableway system around the building core areas (this is the area in which most water ingress may occur) and sealing this with mastic to the floor to form a bund to help limit damage and any further spread of water penetration on to the floor areas.
The standard flat 10mm system can then be used in the normal office areas.
Here again the system can be colour coded to define cable routing, and give clear cable path identification.
The antistatic finish is again also a critical element in the manufacture as this prevents any static electric charge that may build during cable installation being transferred to the data in the cables, also prevents the build up of dust that can occur with some plastics properties.
By introducing a raised back edge to both the standard flat and the raised system it can be transformed into a containment system.
The leading edge of the system is fixed tight to the pedestal and the back edge forms a containment zone, which is used to hold the cables.
This provides a smooth base to carry the cables but with an open side does not form a gutter to contain any water.
Bends tees and fittings can be either factory welded construction or abutment jointed on site.
Should cables need to pass though the back edge, this can be trimmed with a craft knife as required to suit the cable layouts.
