Predictive maintenance specialist Sensonics has published a new "Turbine supervisory guide".

The 28-page guide outlines and explains the basics of vibration and expansion measurement techniques relating to turbine and auxiliary plant equipment.

Totally dedicated to turbine supervision, the document is designed to assist engineers when vibration and expansion problems strike.

Problems such as cracked rotors and damaged shafts can be avoided with the application of the appropriate monitoring equipment, the guide explains, allowing such faults to be detected in the early stages and avoiding lengthy shut down of the turbine.

Striking a balance between fundamental theory and practical advice, the guide includes an introduction to the industry standard transducers available for critical rotating plant monitoring.

It also covers the various measurement techniques typically used within the power industry, including safe plant shut down, associated system components and special measurement regimes.
