Two new monochrome digital cameras are designed for high-speed high-resolution machine-vision applications.

Two new monochrome digital cameras are designed for high-speed high-resolution machine-vision applications.

They deliver double the frame rates of earlier versions, provide an external trigger for clear image capture of fast moving objects and a slow shutter for still images in low light environments.

The XCD-SX910 offers SXGA format output and the faster XCD-X710 is an XGA version.

Both C-mount cameras can be easily synchronised into a multi-camera system.

The cameras also feature fast, plug-and-play IEEE1394 digital interfaces that provide connectivity at up to 400Mbit/s.

The XCD-SX910 uses a 0.5in IT (interline transfer) progressive scan 1,450,000 pixel CCD.

It has selectable frame rates up to 15frame/s.

The XCD-X710 uses a 0.33in IT progressive scan 800,000 pixel CCD and offers frame rates up to 30frame/s.

For both cameras, the 10bit output delivers up to 1024 levels of grey, associated with high quality images.

A variety of convenient features such as partial scan (16 x 16 zones) and selectable output modes (frame rate/bit depth) make these cameras extremely flexible.

The high frame rates and excellent resolution of these cameras also enable effective inspection of high-speed production lines, leading to higher throughput and productivity.

These new Sony digital cameras can be found in any quality-critical imaging applications such as demanding factory automation, semiconductor inspection, biomedical analysis and image processing systems, from 3D positioning, surface analysis to defect sorting.

The XCD-SX910 and XCD-X710 operate from an 8-30V DC supply with a power consumption of 3W.

The cameras are housed in compact, rugged steel cases measuring 44 x 33 x 116mm, and each weighs 250g.

The cameras will be available from November 2003.

A tripod adapter and two lenses, 25mm HD and 50mm macro, are available as optional accessories.
