Sony launches second HD camera module

A Sony Europe - Image Sensing Solutions product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 3, 2008

Sony's Image Sensing division has launched its second high-definition FCB camera module.

The FCB-H11 builds on 2007's FCB-H10, adding several features.

These include an ability to work in low-light conditions, using an auto ICR (IR cut filter removable), which gives day/night operation at 1lx for high-definition resolution.

In addition to videoconferencing and broadcast applications, the camera block is suitable for potentially low-light situations that require high-resolution images, such as intelligent CCTV/security, and environments that require high-quality remote monitoring, such as surgery lamps, crane control, remote vehicle and motor sport.

The 2-megapixel, 60 frames per second module is combined with a 10x optical zoom (120x with digital zoom) and delivers high definition at 1,080i or 720p using a 1/3-type CMOS image sensor.

The lens provides a wide viewing angle of up to 50 degrees.

Featuring Visca (TTL signal level) protocol, the Sony FCB-H11's video output includes 720p (progressive) or 1,080i (interlaced), with 730 and 580 TV lines respectively.

In HD mode, the camera delivers a 16:9 aspect ratio; a 4:3 ratio is also available in SD mode.

The FCB-H11 is an ultra-compact (47.2 x 43.1 x 72.2mm) and lightweight (120g) unit.

It operates across a 0-45C temperature range.
