Doboy Division of SIG Pack, Inc. has selected SolidWorks as the standard solid modeling solution for development of its packaging equipment.

SolidWorks Corporation, a leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream market, today announced that Doboy Division of SIG Pack, Inc.

has selected SolidWorks as the standard solid modeling solution for development of its packaging equipment.

Doboy will be using 50 seats of SolidWorks for designing and manufacturing flexible packaging equipment for bag closure, tray forming and carton closing, as well as horizontal wrapping and feeding.

Headquartered in New Richmond, Wisconsin, Doboy Division of SIG Pack, Inc.

is a recognized leader in producing flexible packaging equipment servicing a wide variety of industries including: candy, auto parts, baked goods, hardware, beverages, frozen food, and pharmaceuticals.

Doboy is utilizing SolidWorks to design machines that range in size from a few hundred parts up to thousands of parts.

Doboy's equipment designs are based on specific types of machinery and the ability to re-use parts and modify them based on customer-needs is important to the company.

Doboy primarily designs and builds horizontal wrappers, which are machines that fold a tube of film around a product and seal it at both ends, such as candy bars, cookies, or microwave popcorn.

Doboy chose SolidWorks as their 3D solution as an upgrade to the 2D solution that they were previously using.

"We were looking for a product that would allow us to transition from our 2D system to 3D with a short learning curve," said Eric Elkin, CAE/ LAN Manager of Doboy.

"In SolidWorks, we found a CAD program that allows us to build a machine right the first time.

With SolidWorks' powerful assembly and configuration management capabilities we can design all sizes of machines and create a base from which future designs can be created.

"During an initial pilot project in which Doboy implemented SolidWorks along with their previous 2D platform, they saw the immediate benefits of what SolidWorks could do for them," said John McEleney, Vice President of the Americas for SolidWorks.

"Using SolidWorks, Doboy was able to immediately verify a design for fit and function as well as better visualize the end product, catching any errors up front before they made it to the floor.

SolidWorks' reseller, Applied CAD/CAM, is working with Doboy for software solutions, implementation, training, and support.
