SolidWorks Corporation has introduced SolidWorks 2001, the latest release of the company's award-winning, Windows-based 3D mechanical design software.
3D CAD software installed as a teaching tool
SolidWorks 3D CAD software has been installed as a teaching tool for engineering students at University of California Berkeley.
SolidWorks Student Edition is for degree seeking students and full-time faculty at accredited academic institutions.
The Getting Started with SolidWorks Student Edition book is included with the software to help students incorporate the use of SolidWorks in their engineering design courses, even if their institution utilizes an alternative CAD package in their lab.
The Student Edition provides the same functionality found in SolidWorks 2000, and offers bi-directional interoperability with institutional licenses and commercial licenses of SolidWorks.
Additionally, it includes PhotoWorks, the company's integrated rendering application and SolidWorks Animator, an integrated animation tool.
"Almost 100% of today's engineering students have their own personal computers.
Working independently, outside of the classroom, has become an increasingly valuable and necessary part of modern education," said Rosanne Kramer, manager of worldwide education markets at SolidWorks.
"The SolidWorks 2000 Student Edition is yet another example of SolidWorks' commitment to provide affordable, state-of-the-art tools to today's students and tomorrow's industry leaders." The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the SolidWorks 2000 Student Edition is $249.98.
A special introductory promotional price of $199.98 is available through September 30, 2000.
The English version of the SolidWorks 2000 Student Edition software will be distributed starting early July by Journey Education Marketing via their e-commerce Website, www.swstudent.com, and will be also be available at the SolidWorks Campus Store, which can be found on the SolidWorks Website at www.solidworks.com/education.
French and German versions will be available in August 2000.
