TechniCon, an innovator in online product catalogs for industrial products, used 3D PartStream.NET to build an online catalog for SMC Pneumatics, the world's largest manufacturer of pneumatic automation components.
SMC's products are complex and highly variable -- in fact, a single product can be configured in as many as one million different ways, making a customer's selection and configuration process complicated.
Using 3D PartStream.NET technology, SMC customers can now simply choose their desired product configurations by selecting predefined values for parameters such as width, height, and diameter.

Share Solidworks designs over the internet
SolidWorks has announced 3D Meeting, an add-in to SolidWorks software that enables users to view and share in real-time SolidWorks mechanical designs over the Internet.
3D PartStream.NET then parametrically generates the specific model based on these specified options.
SMC customers can then easily view and download the 3D model in a wide variety of formats for use in their own designs.

VerticalNet, a business-to-business trading exchange, employs 3D PartStream.NET viewing technology to 3D-enable their customers' storefronts.
VerticalNet has 57 industry-specific, online vertical trading communities that service thousands of customers.
Mahr Federal, a VerticalNet customer, provides dimensional measurement solutions for precision manufacturers in a variety of industries, and is using 3D-Powered Storefronts to showcase its precision gauging products.

"The SMC catalog and VerticalNet trading exchange demonstrate two very effective and powerful ways that companies are successfully using the powerful functionality available in 3D PartStream.NET," said Jim Giebutowski, director of Content Publishing for SolidWorks Corporation.
"Currently, we have two different types of partners -- those partners like TechniCon that develop online catalogs and e-commerce systems for manufacturing companies, and partners such as VerticalNet that develop Web-based trading exchanges that reach thousands of manufacturing companies every day.
We are aggressively pursuing both of these channels, allowing 3D PartStream.NET to grow into an industry leading service in the rapidly expanding field of online catalogs, e-commerce Web sites, and Web-based trading exchanges.".
