SolidWorks Corporation has introduced SolidWorks 2001, the latest release of the company's award-winning, Windows-based 3D mechanical design software.
3D CAD software installed as a teaching tool
SolidWorks 3D CAD software has been installed as a teaching tool for engineering students at University of California Berkeley.
This donation is the first of several academic initiatives that SolidWorks will implement in Asia over the next several months-in fact, a similar donation is planned for several universities in Beijing in Fall 2001.
In addition to the software donation, SolidWorks is working with the CEMAME to establish two new CAD training facilities located at the Shanghai University of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Vocational Training Directive Center.
Students from more than ten universities in Shanghai will have access to these CAD training centers.
The goal of the training centers is to provide students with the CAD tools and training necessary to compete effectively in China's emerging industries and economy.
"We're extremely grateful for SolidWorks' generous donation," said Professor Shu Zhang, Honorary Director of the Institute on Advanced Manufacturing Technology for Tongji University.
"SolidWorks' ease-of-use and short learning curve make the software an exceptional tool for teaching students the fundamentals of CAD technology.
Because of this donation, all of our affiliated universities can adopt a similar standard for technology education and industrial training programs." "SolidWorks is committed to expanding our educational efforts in Asia," said Rosanne Kramer, Manager of SolidWorks Education Markets.
"With the dynamic changes taking place in China's economy, the opportunities in the engineering job market will expand dramatically.
Therefore, it's essential that engineering and design students have 'hands-on' experience with the latest technology and engineering tools that are already an integral component for China's most innovative and progressive companies." SolidWorks' software donation was recently presented in an official ceremony held at the Shanghai University of Science and Technology with more than eighty engineering faculty from the 12 benefiting universities in attendance.
The recipient universities and CEMAME are working with SolidWorks' Beijing-based reseller, General Faith International Ltd., for faculty training, ongoing software support, and services.
