SolidWorks Corporation has received two top industry awards for its online collaborative design products at the National Design Engineering Show (NDES) 2001 in Chicago
SolidWorks Corporation has received two top industry awards for its online collaborative design products At the National Design Engineering Show (NDES) 2001 in Chicago, Cadence magazine presented SolidWorks' collaborative tool set with its Show Stopper Award, and Cadalyst magazine bestowed its Best of Show Award on the company's eDrawings product
Cadence cited SolidWorks' collaborative tool set as products that "exemplify innovation, creativity, simplicity, and ease-of-use" and "move the CAD industry forward".
The tool set enables engineers and designers to communicate 3D content over the Internet to their partners, vendors, and customers.
SolidWorks collaborative products include eDrawings, 3D Instant Website, SolidWorks Web Folders, and the 3D PartStream.NET online service.
The Show Stopper Awards were selected by Cadence magazine's editors.
"SolidWorks has sidestepped the more complex, high-cost approach to collaboration, keeping with its goal of giving engineers tools they can use from within SolidWorks that are easy to learn and execute," said Editor in Chief Arnie Williams.
Cadalyst's Best of Show Award recognized SolidWorks' eDrawings as a product "destined to change the way designers and engineers work." eDrawings is a compressed electronic drawing program for sending and viewing 3D designs via email.
The magazine editors who selected the award winners described eDrawings as a simple, yet elegant solution for sharing MCAD models with non-CAD users.
"eDrawings is a single mouse-click solution that makes it extremely easy for engineers and designers to share their CAD models with the rest of the world," said Art Liddle, executive technology editor at Cadalyst.
"I look forward to the day when other mechanical CAD (MCAD) packages are fully supported.
Ideally, eDrawings would become the de facto standard in the MCAD world, perhaps eliminating paper drawings entirely." SolidWorks' COO John McEleney acknowledged that online collaboration tools enable the CAD industry to reap the benefits of the Internet's economies and immediacy.
"We know from our customers that design collaboration over the Internet saves them a great deal of time and money and compresses their products' time to market," said McEleney.
"We're honored that Cadence and Cadalyst have recognized SolidWorks for producing some of the most powerful tools leading the CAD industry in a positive new direction." About SolidWorks collaborative products SolidWorks' 3D collaborative tool set includes eDrawings, 3D Instant Website, SolidWorks Web Folders, and 3D PartStream.NET.
eDrawings is a compressed electronic drawing file with a self-contained viewer that lets users create, view, send, and receive 2D and 3D mechanical drawings via email, eliminating typical communication, software incompatibility, and drawing interpretation barriers.
SolidWorks Web Folders is a tool for sharing SolidWorks designs of parts, assemblies and drawings over the Internet.
3D Instant Website makes it easy for users to publish live Web pages with 3D interactive content.
3D PartStream.NET allows manufacturers to publish 3D CAD content to online catalogs and e-commerce solutions, opening new channels for marketing, sales, and customer services using the Internet.
