Syncroness is builds lightweight, high-performance mechanisms in less time and at lower cost by using CosmosMotion to detect part collisions and precisely calculate material use.
Engineering services company Syncroness is building lightweight, high-performance mechanisms in less time and at lower cost by using CosmosMotion analysis software to detect part collisions and precisely calculate material use colourado-based Syncroness designs enclosures, medical devices, triggering, and launching mechanisms for corporation and government agencies
Syncroness engineers use CosmosMotion to correct collisions and calculate precisely how much material a mechanism needs to resist failure without weighing an ounce more than it needs to.
The ability to detect and correct faults early in the design cycle gives Syncroness' engineers more time to focus on designing better products, and less on time-consuming manual analysis.
CEO Greg Langley chose CosmosMotion as the company's front-line mechanical analysis tool because it is easy to use, performs complex calculations, and integrates smoothly with the company's other software tools.
With CosmosMotion, Syncroness can analyse its designs in minutes, rather than the days and weeks its previous analysis process required.
"CosmosMotion took about four hours to learn, versus the three-to-five days our other analysis tools required", Langley said.
"It performs complex calculations and delivers accurate results".
"The test came when we built a lift-and-tilt module for a wheelchair".
"We had tight space requirements so we integrated several different mechanisms - cams, scissors, etc - into a single assembly".
"The transition from one mechanism to another had to be smooth".
"The design performed within five% of the prediction we made with CosmosMotion, which is an excellent result".
Syncroness' customers include some of the top names in industry, including Honeywell, Medtronic, Hewlett Packard and Lockheed Martin.
To maintain top quality, Syncroness' design process includes scheduled reviews of work in progress, during which engineers must present supporting data for their designs.
CosmosMotion enables them to produce accurate data in less time than they could using Syncroness' more complex analysis packages.
The ability to validate a design by repeatedly analysing it yields more information than a physical prototype at an exponentially lower cost.
"A prototype doesn't enable us to test all the conditions and failure modes we can test electronically", Langley said.
"A CosmosMotion prototype tells us how close we are to the edge of failure and what we have to do to avoid it".
"A physical prototype just tells us if we failed, but not how or why".
CosmosMotion has also eliminated time-consuming trial-and-error testing.
CosmosMotion enables the company to do dozens of iterations in a fraction of the time.
SolidWorks' Cosmos family of design analysis applications is built to give everyone in the design process analysis tools once available only to specially trained analysts.
Through automation and guided processes, Cosmos software enables front-line engineers to produce accurate results quickly.
analysing and modifying designs early in the process helps companies detect and correct errors that can cost tens of thousands of dollars during physical prototyping.
"Syncroness is demonstrating how analysis technology reduces and in many cases eliminates the need for multiple prototypes", said Suchit Jain, SolidWorks Vice President for Analysis Products.
"analysing a design from its earliest iterations right up to prototype production is one of the most cost-effective ways of improving quality, lowering costs, and promoting innovation".
"We've built CosmosMotion with those goals in mind, combining ease-of-use and accuracy in an easy-to-learn application".
Syncroness works with SolidWorks reseller MCAD Technologies for implementation and technical support.
