Space-saving alternative to LVDTs and linear pots

A SpaceAge Control product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 6, 2001

SpaceAge Control's Series 170 and 176 position transducers have been developed as a space-saving alternative to rod-and-cylinder products such as LVDTs and linear potentiometers

Adding to its line of subminiature position transducers, SpaceAge Control, now offers the Series 170 and 176 position transducers.

The products deliver extended-life, high-reliability position measurement in a compact size.

Typical applications include vehicle testing, industrial control feedback, aircraft flight control monitoring, and medical equipment measurement.

Developed as a space-saving alternative to rod-and-cylinder products such as LVDTs and linear potentiometers, the flexible and easy-to-install products use a stainless steel cable wound around a spring-powered precision machined drum.

The bearing-mounted drum is mated to a precision potentiometric element that translates linear position information to an electrical signal.

This transducer technology gives high precision, easy installation, and fast setup.

The products may be quickly mounted using screws provided, an optional rotatable mounting base, or custom installation plates.

Series 170 position transducers measure up to 2 inches (51 mm) of travel with external dimensions of only 0.96 inches (24.4 mm) diameter by 0.45 inches (11.4 mm) wide.

Series 176 position transducers measure up to 6.5 inches (165 mm) of travel with external dimensions of only 2.49 inches (63.3 mm) diameter by 0.52 inches (13.2 mm) wide.

The products weigh less than 4 oz.

and are available with right-hand or left-hand cable pull.

Custom configurations and signal conditioning are available for unique applications.

The products feature 5K ohm, co-molded, conductive plastic, potentiometric elements; a -65ø to +125ø C operating temperature range; ñ0.5% linearity; 0.75 watt power rating; and 50-million-cycle operational life.

Cable tension is user specified and factory set.

SpaceAge Control has been a leading developer of innovative position transducers since 1968.

Its quality system is compliant with ISO 9001.
