The new modular AKi range of enclosures from Spelsberg feature an innovative new attachment system and tougher glass-fibre reinforced polycarbonate body.

Models provide higher resistance to impacts, temperatures and UV light, making the series ideal for applications in harsh industrial and outdoor environments.

Assembling Spelsberg's tough AKi boxes to create a bespoke junction box is a quick and flexible process.

First, position boxes in the desired configuration, match up and punch through the desired cable gland knockouts and square joining holes with a screwdriver or knife.

Boxes can then be connected using precut adhesive gaskets and secured by inserting bars through the square knockout holes.

The bars are then fixed using wedge shaped pins, which exert a pulling action as they push into position, forcing the two units together and sealing the boxes to IP65.

The wedge pins feature a notch and groove system that provides a fixed location point, standardising the force required to join the boxes and allowing units to be easily dismantled for use in different configurations.

Enclosure bodies in the AKi range are supplied with four standard side lengths of 150, 300, 450 and 600mm and four different base sizes.

Base depths are 132mm as standard and the three largest models in the range are available with an optional depth of 210mm, ensuring that junction boxes can be assembled in any shape or size.

Units are available with an attractive smooth side walled design that is complemented with a choice of polycarbonate cable glands and lids in either grey or transparent plastic.

AKi units comply with VDE0660 0507 standards, making them ideal for use in environments where exposure to harsh weather, washdowns, chemicals, accidental knocks and contact with flames may occur.

Applications include outdoor junction boxes for electrical installations, marine cabling on land or sea, general industrial buildings and wiring systems in clean environments such as those found in food or pharmaceutical industries.

The units are available with an attractive smooth side walled design that is complemented with a choice of polycarbonate lids in either transparent plastic for remote checking of connections or plain grey.

They are suitable for use with voltage ratings up to 690V (250A) and are compatible with all types of vertical and horizontal DIN rails and connection bars.

An internal clearance of 120 or 200mm provides for more connection space and numerous internal pre-embossings make installation quicker and easier.

Spelsberg can also pre-assemble bespoke junction boxes and install a wide range of accessories.

The components are also available as single items and the range includes quick fit DIN-rails and busbars, circuit breakers, colour coded clip-on terminals for rail mounting and a wide selection of cable entry devices from simple push-in protection up to fully clamping IP68 cable glands.
