New enclosures meet the forthcoming European EN60670-1 safety regulations for boxes and enclosures for electrical accessories in household and similar fixed electrical installations up to 1kV AC.

The new Q12 Quickbox enclosures from Spelsberg meet the forthcoming European EN60670-1 safety regulations for boxes and enclosures for electrical accessories in household and similar fixed electrical installations up to 1000V AC.

By meeting the levels of insulation, heat and knock resistance required by the regulations, electricians and fitters can now ensure that systems are suitably protected as well as saving time during installation.

After eight years of conflicting norms, all previous European standards will soon be consolidated under the new EN60670-1 directive.

As of 2005, this new European standard will be applied to electrical boxes and enclosures used in commercial and domestic electrical systems from 50-1000V.

The regulations ensure the safety of workers and the public alike; however Spelsberg's Q12 Quickbox enclosures also offer customers involved in large-scale refurbishment, lighting, office fitting and housing projects the added benefit of reducing installation time.

Q12 junction boxes are designed to speed up the process of wiring electrical systems by reducing the number of operations required to secure the boxes.

The system allows users to manually push cable ends through a moulded slit in the enclosure sidewall instead of feeding them through retaining bands or cable glands.

With this operation, knockouts are automatically removed and bevelled edges provide a hold secure enough to suspend enclosures by the cables during wiring.

This removes the need for tightening awkward fasteners or the use of tools, leaving hands free for balance and other operations, which is especially useful in suspended ceilings.

Installation of the Q12 enclosures is further improved by Spelsberg's innovative "Klickt" click-top lid system, which consists of extra ridges set into the box edge and adjoining lid surfaces to provide faster and more secure location without the need for tools.

Flexibility of mounting is also improved by using external lugs for easy fixing to cable routing tracks, trunking, square beams and poles using either cable ties or screws.

The models offer two standard lugs, which accommodate screws, and feature three knockouts in the base for installation on flat surfaces.

Offering access for up to six cables with three 1.5 to 2.5mm2 conductors and five with three 2.5mm2 strand NYM cables, the larger Q12 enclosures are ideal for large projects where circuit installation is against the clock.

To speed installation up even further, Spelsberg can cut bespoke entries, engrave corporate logos and fit terminals for delivery within 48h.

Spelsberg also has the largest range of ex-stock plastic enclosures available in the UK and their Telford headquarters is centrally located to provide immediate access to technical support and next day delivery on all standard items.
