From July 2005, UK workers are protected from WBV through the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005.
Employers who might be exposing employees to WBV by nature of their work must carry out a risk assessment to establish the extent of the risk to WBV.
An assessment of WBV exposure can normally be based on published information for that machine.
Where the exposure action value as defined in CVWR 2005 is exceeded, or likely to be exceeded, an action plan of necessary control measures to remove or reduce this risk must be designed and implemented and monitored over time.
A guide to WBV has been recently issued by the Off-highway Plant and Equipment Research Centre (OPERC).
For further information on WBV or for a copy of this guide please contact Spillard Safety Systems.
