Wireless sensor measures wheel torque

A Sensor Developments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 29, 2009

Sensor Developments has released the Model 90360 wireless wheel torque sensor that allows the operator to measure wheel torque at the tyre footprint interface.

The sensor is said to accurately measure rolling resistance, brake drag forces, or takeoff and stopping forces.

Sensor Development's digital FM telemetry system acquires the torque signal, eliminating the need for slip rings and anti-rotation brackets.

The complete system includes a torque sensor, vehicle adapter plates for direct attachment to the axle hub, a transmitter housing with power and shunt calibration switch, as well as the digital FM telemetry system.

System features include: non-contacting signal transmission; high level analogue signal output; 12 bit A/D resolution; non-linearity and hysteresis; 1,250Hz sample rate; 9V battery-operated transmitter; and on-board shunt calibration and power switch.
