Fast acquisition cards take big memory onboard

A Spectrum Systementwicklung Microelectronic product story

The M2i series is the latest generation of A/D cards from Spectrum, the specialist for fast PC data acquisition.

The M2i series, introduced by Spectrum the specialist for fast PC data acquisition, is a new generation of A/D cards based on the MI series.

The card base has been totally renewed and offers a wide variety of new functions and features.

The approved module structure is retained to grant new functionality to a wide range of data acquisition cards.

The M2i card range covers the speed range from 200Ksample/s up to 200Msample/s with A/D resolutions of 8, 12, 14 or 16bit.

Nearly 50 different versions with up to eight fully synchronous A/D channels per card allow a perfect adaptation to the needs of the user.

The onboard memory has been improved to a maximum of 4Gbyte.

That size allows the acquisition of a 12bit analogue channel for more than 10s using a sampling rate of 200Msample/s.

When performing slower acquisitions the complete memory can also be used as a FIFO buffer allowing sustained data transfers of more than 200Mbyte/s over the PCI-X interface.

The new interface is still 100% compatible to standard 32bit PCI systems.

Due to the new and completely redesigned card control hardware, the M2i cards offer a wide range of application proven features.

An example for this is the enhanced multiple recording mode that allows the acquisition of events with a very fast repetition rate without restarting the hardware.

The programmable pretrigger, posttrigger, delay-trigger, the extra timestamp memory and the extremely short rearming times satisfy all needs of this mode.

Besides this, the M2i cards also includes ABA mode, (for an automatic increase of sampling rate on triggering events), gated sampling, versatile clock and trigger modes as well as a software interface optimised for ease of use.

The M2i cards are delivered with drivers for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP86 and Linux as well as miscellaneous programming examples.

The driver interfaces to third-party products cover the complete range of LabView, LabWindows, Matlab, VEE, DasyLab and MS Excel.
