New hot water system for N.Irish sauce factory
Spirax Sarco has equipped a new boiler house and hot water system installed during a major expansion at Rich Sauces' factory in Northern Ireland.
The two existing 680kg/h boilers were replaced by two 2,725kg/h boilers generating steam at 10 bar g, which is reduced to 6 bar g for distribution around the production area.
The boiler plant features total condensate recovery, a new aerator, feedtank and blowdown vessel.
The boilers are also fitted with a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) blowdown system that saves energy by ensuring that blowdown is carried out only when necessary.
"All the ancillary equipment was supplied by Spirax Sarco, down to the last pneumatic control valve," says engineering project coordinator Steve Roberts.
"It's performing very well.
We chose Spirax Sarco because they've given us extremely good service over the years on our existing facilities." A clean steam generator produces clean steam by using some of the boilers' output.
The boilers' output is then used as the energy source to produce ultra pure steam via a clean steam generator for distribution to hygienic applications around the site, such as autoclaves and freeze dryers, and also to produce water for injection for the pharmaceutical production process.
Steam is also the source of the low pressure hot water used for air conditioning throughout the Wrexham facility.
Ipsen Biopharm employed Glossop-based contractor Thermal Transfer to design and build the new installation.
