A Spirax Sarco Packaged Plantroom System (PPS) is helping Peter's Food Service to save water and cut maintenance costs in its daily plant cleaning routine.

A Spirax Sarco Packaged Plantroom System (PPS) is helping Peter's Food Service to save water and cut maintenance costs in its daily plant cleaning routine.

The new system replaces two Angelery heaters that frequently failed to deliver water at the right temperature, causing delays and excessive water use.

"The nightshift washes down between 10pm and 4:30am, but at times we struggled to complete the work before the plant's morning start up at 6am, which delayed production.

With the Spirax Sarco unit, we get a constant supply of water at the right temperature.

Production starts on time and we are using much less water", explains Brian Foley, Production Manager at the Peter's Food factory in Bedwas near Caerphilly.

The site produces a wide range of pies, pasties, sausage rolls and other pastries.

Foley cites labour-saving as being another major advantage.

"Staff can now spend time working elsewhere within the factory.

We now complete all our scheduled cleaning during the week, whereas before we would often run out of time and have to wash down walls, for example, on a Saturday morning".

The PPS provides water at 70C to a hosedown station for washing plant overnight.

Supplied as a complete steam-to-water heating system, the PPS comprises heat exchange, steam conditioning, pressure reducing, temperature control and condensate removal equipment on a skid-mounted frame.

"It is a compact installation and we are very pleased since it went in.

We've never had it running at more than 60% of its capacity, so it will easily meet our future needs", concludes Foley.
