All products manufactured by Spirax Sarco have been approved to the new pressure equipment regulations - well ahead of their becoming mandatory in the UK on 29th May 2002.

The regulations implement the Pressure Equipment Directive, which applies throughout the EU.

The requirements of the regulations vary depending on the type of equipment sold, whether it is intended to contain liquid or gas and the classification of the intended contents.

Pressure equipment falls into five basic groups: vessels, piping, steam generators, safety accessories and pressure accessories.

The fluids and gases carried are also divided into two groups, where Group 1 are explosive, flammable, toxic or oxidising.

Group 2 covers all other fluids and gases, including steam, which is the primary medium for most Spirax Sarco products.

The degree of compliance with the regulations for each product category varies, but entailed Spirax Sarco providing a combination of documentation, production controls, quality assurance and inspection and testing routines.

Full instructions and safety information must also be supplied with the equipment, and CE marked where appropriate.

Gaining compliance was a complex process, but a task that Spirax Sarco as a reputable supplier was keen to achieve to provide the guarantees that buyers demand.
