A free online training programme enables engineers to cover vital topics on the design and maintenance of steam systems in just 30min.

A free online training programme enables engineers to cover vital topics on the design and maintenance of steam systems in just 30min.

Not only is the new distance learning website (www.spiraxsarco.com/learn) free, but it requires no log in or registration, making it quick and easy to access.

The distance learning programme currently has modules for an introduction to steam, steam engineering principles, heat transfer, the boilerhouse and steam trapping.

With new modules being added regularly, the programme will eventually deal with the complete steam and condensate loop.

Future modules will include flow metering, controls, safety valves, steam distribution and condensate recovery.

Each module typically takes half an hour of study and is followed by a questionnaire relating to the module to test the student's knowledge.

The programme is based on content from Spirax Sarco's wide range of professional training courses run through its renowned training centre in Cheltenham.

Many of the centre's courses are approved by professional bodies, including the Institute of Plant Engineers (IPlantE), Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), BTEC and City and Guilds.

The distance learning programme provides a wealth of knowledge for experienced and novice steam engineers and acts as a convenient reference source that can be accessed quickly.
