Spirax Sarco's MFP mechanical fluid pumps and APT automatic pump traps have been certified as complying with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.
Spirax Sarco's MFP mechanical fluid pumps and APT automatic pump traps have been certified as complying with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, which gives the safety requirements to be fulfilled by equipment installed in hazardous areas.
The ATEX Directive has been mandatory since July 2003.
To qualify for ATEX approval, Spirax Sarco has shown that the products will not ignite explosive atmospheres.
"Because these products are called pumps, customers have been asking for ATEX approval, even though it is not strictly necessary", explains Rick Plummer, Engineering Manager, Spirax Sarco.
"Unlike conventional pumps, our MFPs and APTs have no electrical components or any other means of igniting explosive atmospheres.
But ATEX certification helps to remove any doubts over this grey area".
The MFP and APT ranges are self-contained, virtually maintenance-free pumps using steam or other pressurised gas as motive power.
The pumps ensure efficient condensate removal and recovery in steam systems, improving plant energy efficiency and reducing maintenance.
These units cost far less to run than conventional electric pumps.
The MFP and APT ranges are certified to Group II G for surface industries and carry the CE mark and the Ex symbol.
