Spirax Sarco has become the first fully approved training provider for the new nationally recognised Boiler Operative Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) qualification for industrial boiler operators.

Spirax Sarco has become the first fully approved training provider for the new nationally recognised Boiler Operative Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) qualification for industrial boiler operators.

Two courses at Spirax Sarco's training centre in Cheltenham provide the necessary training.

The D6 Introductory Course and the D6A Accreditation Course have both been approved and are subject to ongoing monitoring.

The D6 course is also suitable for anyone involved with steam boiler plant.

Newly appointed boiler operators would need to attend the D6 course first in preparation for the more advanced D6A course.

The D6A course is specifically aimed at steam boiler operatives seeking to attain BOAS accreditation and includes the written examination.

Having successfully completed the course, candidates would then need to undergo an on-site assessment to qualify.

Benefits include a honing of skills and knowledge, competence, use of designatory letters and entry onto a national register.

Spirax Sarco has an international reputation for the quality of training it provides.

Many of its courses are already approved by professional bodies such as the Institute of Plant Engineers, the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, BTEC and City and Guilds.

The Spirax Sarco training centre in Cheltenham has three fully equipped air conditioned lecture rooms, a practical demonstration area with numerous demonstration rigs providing hands-on fault finding and assembly exercises, and a fully operational steam boilerhouse with steam and condensate system.

The first training course was held at the end of November and proved a great success with the students.

The courses will be held throughout 2006.
