Hinge pin seal holds lubricant in place
A novel seal for hinge joints on mobile machines used in the construction industry or agricultural sector keeps lubricants in place to reduce wear and avoid polution.
The hinge joints on mobile machines used in the construction industry or agricultural sector must be lubricated on a regular basis.
It is also important to ensure that lubricants are not allowed to escape and contaminate soil or water.
Freudenberg Simrit has risen to this dual challenge by developing the AU PS hinge pin seal which prevents pollution and significantly extends machine service intervals.
Pin seals for machine hinge joints are made of polyurethane.
This tried and trusted sealing material guarantees outstanding wear performance, one of the most important characteristics of pin seals.
The special seal design creates an effective block and protects the hinge joint against dirt and water.
These seals fit into the cylindrical bore holes into which the bearing pins are inserted.
The press fit of the metal reinforcement prevents the seal from turning with the shaft during pivoting motion.
The scraper lip, which is flush with the housing, is protected against external damage.
The possible reduction in tolerance and the significantly smaller allowance at the hinge joints created by these hinge pin seals not only improves the performance of these machines but also makes them easier to service.
In short, Freudenberg Simrit's hinge pin seals also make the machine significantly more efficient and economical to run.
For example, using these seals on a typical universal machine with 26 relubrication points extends the lubrication interval from one to seven days and results in a possible saving of 26 x 6 lubrication points.
Supposing that it takes one minute to lubricate each point, the use of these seals results in a time saving of 156 minutes.
In other words, machine availability is increased by over 2.5 hours in only one week.
In addition, the extended lubrication intervals not only reduce the amount of lubricants consumed and the time required for servicing, it also reduces the threat of environmental pollution by lubricants.
