Dow Corning is using a dynamic simulator built and implemented by Invensys to train operators at its Barry, South Wales, production facility in the UK.

Built using DYNSIM and FSIM dynamic simulation technology from Invensys' SimSci-Esscor unit, the operator training simulator (OTS) was installed at the end of 2006.

It has led to significant savings in training and manpower costs, enhanced plant safety and increased productivity at the site where a complex distillation and polymerisation process is used to manufacture products.

The selection process for the annual award applied the quality function deployment methodology and submissions were rated in terms of: supply chain excellence, corporate priorities and business behaviors.

Hugh Woodward, Barry Site Control / Electrical Manager commented, "By achieving excellence within our supply chain we can better serve the needs of our customers".
