Avian Flu - Do you know the facts?

A Safety Media product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 7, 2007

An outbreak of the H5N1 strain of Avian Influenza has been confirmed in Suffolk.

Tens of thousands of turkeys have been culled at the Bernard Matthews site in order to contain the outbreak and an investigation is taking place to identify how the virus entered Britain.

Since 2003 the Avian Flu virus has killed 164 people worldwide, mainly in south-east Asia.

Although the risk the H5N1 strain poses to humans is "negligible", a plan is being put into place in case of a flu pandemic.

To help understand the possible effects the Avian Flu outbreak could have and to prepare for a possible pandemic, Safety Media have released a new DVD.

'Avian Flu - The Facts'.

The DVD discusses the origins of Avian Flu and provides the viewer with information about the disease, how it originated and what affect it can have on humans.

This 10 minute DVD also provides information on: * What to do in the event of an Avian Flu pandemic.

* How the disease presents itself in a bird and a human.

* How the virus can spread.

* How to avoid contracting the disease.

* What will happen if a pandemic occurs.

* The choice or protective equipment to wear in the event of a pandemic.

This DVD provides important information on how to detect the symptoms of Avian Flu and how to protect yourself and others should a pandemic occur.

The DVD comes with 10 Avian Flu Booklets which are ideal as permanent handouts after the training session is complete.
