Proximity sensor handles high temperatures

New from Sensors UK, the MI 480 is the latest addition to the MI family of high-temperature proximity switches.
These silicon-free inductive switches are frequently used where object position and detection must be carried out in areas of high temperature such as motor vehicle painting ovens or manufacturing processes, where dirt, heat and an aggressive environment are present.
When temperatures escalate to 480F and beyond, conventional switches frequently fail or simply burn away.
The MI series has been designed to survive these arduous conditions for extremely long periods of time, thus bringing major cost savings on plant maintenance.
The new design of the MI 480 brings the ability to survive even with additional short term excursions up to 662F.
This is possible due to the use of a special carrier for the inductive coils, a new ceramic enclosure, and heat resistant cable.
Switching distances are either 15, 20 or 25mm on all usual steel targets, and there will soon be a version available to switch over a distance of 50mm.
The associated electronics module is contained within a die cast aluminium case carrying an IP64 rating, and is specified for use in temperatures up to 126F for an unlimited time.
The sensor head connection cable employs Teflon insulation with metallic over sheath to give protection to 480F, and this can be specified in lengths of 3, 7, 10, 20 and 25m.
For particularly aggressive environments the standard aluminium head carrier is available in stainless steel.
All switches use a 24V DC power supply, with the option of 115V AC mains supply.
