Laser system "minds the gap"

A Sensors UK product story

Door and other panel gaps have traditionally been measured in the automobile industry using mechanical means, or sometimes camera systems.

Door and other panel gaps have traditionally been measured in the automobile industry using mechanical means, or sometimes camera systems.

These methods are time consuming and cannot be carried out "online" as a 100% test.

Sensors UK has a new gap measuring and monitoring system, based on the well known M2D two dimensional laser scanner, which can easily be interfaced to a robot.

This new system recognises the gap dimensions in both x and z axes, independently of the absolute position of the target.

Both are measured simultaneously, in one measurement, without any prior adjustment or focus control.

The system always gives absolute values.

There are a number of advantages which include an excellent price/performance ratio, no moving parts, onboard Ethernet, and a proven record of use in tough industrial environments.

Applications include many robot workstations, roll gap measurement, profile and contour checking, and wear measurement on load bearing surfaces.
