Laser scanners offer precision control

A Sensors UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 16, 2004

Sensors UK now has the next generation M2DF twin axis precision laser scanner, launched at the recent Electronica Exhibition in Munich.

The next generation M2DF twin axis precision laser scanner was launched at the recent Electronica Exhibition in Munich.

These new scanners come with a higher image frequency of 110Hz at full resolution, and industrial Ethernet interface.

Up to 10 scanners can be connected to an Ethernet hub over a 100Mbit Ethernet Cat5 cable, and communicate with a host/client application.

This allows easy and fast installation in complex applications, with versatility to move scanner locations at will with simple reconnection.

Measurement is made by projecting a laser light line onto the object, and by triangulation, measuring the height (z-axis) and width (x-axis).

The laser line is produced by a pulsed laser diode and linear optical array system The applications for this type of measurement are wide and varied in process and manufacturing industries.

The precise control of robots to place large components such as motor vehicle windscreens, door gap measurement, or body positioning is typical.
