Complete system to meet component protection
Static Control Components has developed a system to help companies packaging surface mount electronics devices meet the requirements of the new joint IPC/JEDEC Standard J-STD-033.
Low-profile ESD grounding cord system
Static Control Components manufactures a range of personnel grounding products including wrist straps and foot grounders and one of the key parts of these systems is the common ground cord.
As an example, companies that tape and reel components for automated assembly must pack reels and trays in moisture barrier and static shield packaging to ensure that the product arrives at customers moisture-free, static-safe and ready for use.
Furthermore they should ensure that these bags are fresh and undamaged since rips or scratches could compromise the bags' Faraday cage shielding protection, so a supply of fresh bags is essential.
Moisture barrier bags not only provide dissipative, antistatic and shielding properties but also shield EMI/RFI and protect their contents from moisture, even during long-term storage.

Monitor keeps tabs on ESD control schemes
A novel monitor can be used to ensure that ESD control is working by constantly testing the connection integrity of the person, the wristband, the cord and bench mat connections.
Dual-wire wrist strap monitors static
The latest personnel grounding dual-wire wrist strap from Static Control Components is been designed to work in conjunction with most dual-wire resistance-type constant monitors.
Furthermore these bags are ideal for storing surface mount devices to prevent moisture absorption by the IC case material; during reflow soldering any absorbed moisture will expand and crack the case.
The Dri-ShieldT range of bags includes metalised multi-layer and, for optimum moisture resistance, foil barrier.
They meet or exceed the moisture vapour transmission rates and EMI/RFI/static shielding requirements of MIL-B-81705C, type I and EIA 583, type I for static safe moisture barrier packaging.
For maximum dryness desiccant sachets should be added and humidity indicators cards should also be included to provide a visual signal of humidity level and to help to determine whether a component is dry enough for solder reflow.
The package can be completed with a suitable moisture-warning label and then sealed with a vacuum bag sealing unit, which is also available with a nitrogen purge option.
Static Control Components (Europe) Ltd is the world's largest manufacturer of static shield and moisture barrier bags and provides same day shipment from its vast inventory.
In addition it also manufacturers wrist straps, coiled cords, heel and toe grounders, enabling companies in the electronics industry to develop and maintain essential ESD control programmes in accordance with the latest standards.
