Signal conditioning on show

Visitors to the Status Instruments' stand at this years MTEC exhibition will have the chance to win a Playstation 2.

Visitors to the Status Instruments' stand at this years MTEC exhibition will not only be able to see live interactive demonstrations of the versatility of its Medacs range of signal conditioning modules but also have the chance to find out more about the competition to win a Playstation 2 Medacs (modular expandable data acquisition and control systems) is aimed at specifiers of electronic equipment in large processing plants, system integrators and specialist panel builders

Unlike traditional signal conditioning units, Medacs units can change their functionality at the 'drop of a hat'.

The key to this is a unique feature called TFML which is embedded in each unit.

A TFML (transfer function module library) function can be easily down loaded into the instrument either via a modem link or directly from a PC using a serial link.

This function can then carry out complex mathematical calculations or preconfigured control routines on the input data to provide a suitably modified output.

The versatility and effectiveness of TFML really comes into its own in the dual input version of the Medacs.

Inputs from two independent sensors can be combined to provide a single output.

For instance, velocity and level inputs from water in an open channel can be combined to give flow readings while temperature and humidity can be converted to dewpoint or enthalpy outputs.

Each unit has a RS485 communication link enabling data to be sent to and from a host using Modbus protocol.

An ingenious 'bus jumper' system allows multiple units to be easily bussed together removing the need for complicated and expensive back plane wiring and speeding up the installation process.

Status have achieved full OPC (object linking and embedding for process control) compliance for the Medacs series ensuring the units will connect easily and seamlessly into overall plant control systems, without the need for lengthy installation procedures and special interfaces.

Advance information on Medacs and how to enter the competition is also available at from the Satus website.

The site gives details on a wide range of applications together with further information on TFML. Request a free brochure from Status Instruments ...
