Concrete block moving made easier

A Sensor-Technik UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 14, 2006

Mechanical and hydraulic equipment custom designed for concrete block lifter using existing remote control unit.

A manufacturer of concrete blocks required a special tool on its yard vehicle to pick up and set down the blocks without using pallets and without the need for the operator to get out of the vehicle.

Sensor-Technik was asked to design the mechanical and hydraulic equipment for the concrete block lifter.

It developed a way for the hydraulic valve control to use an existing remote control unit.

Bearing in mind the operating environment, the system had to be rugged and robust.

Sensor-Technik constructed a black box that connected to the receiver of the remote unit to control the valves according to the particular functions needed.

Extra protection against vibration and shock impact was key since the unit had be mounted as close to the hydraulics as possible.

Development began with discussions with vehicle operators to get their feedback on the requirements.

Sensor-Technik then drew in all the relevant resources and worked closely with the hydraulics company to develop and prove the system.

With the system built and all the mechanical and hydraulic components in place, Sensor-Technik brought the control system to the site and completed the wiring and control installation.

It was up and running within a few hours.

With simple modifications to a standard product, the user gained a piece of hardware with its own mechanical style that provided all the functionality required.
