New Million Pound Facility Increases Production Power Of Strongbox Strongbox, the company that makes high quality rack and console systems for the broadcast and general electronics industry, has completed a £1million move to a new factory in Houghton Regis, near Dunstable, that greatly increases its manufacturing capacity The new 20,000 sq.ft

purpose built factory provides Strongbox with a complete manufacturing capability from raw materials to finished product.

The move from the previous factory at Maple Cross was needed to provide the space and increased capacity for the company's rapid growth plans.

Considerable investment has been made in new production equipment including a second high speed 22 tonne, 22 station punch press that will, with specially designed cluster tooling, increase the punching capacity five fold.

New MIG and TIG welding machines also increases the capacity to weld both steel and aluminium.

A major part of the ?1 million investment has been to create one of the most productive and modern powder coating plants in the area that provides on-line, three-stage pre-treatment, drying, spraying and stoving facilities.

This new powder coating facility can accommodate 300 items and means that Strongbox can powder coat 10 instrument racks, plus all accessories, an hour.

The total plant is controlled by a capacity planning and on-line data collection with CAD/CAM and is ISO 9001 assured.

This whole project was designed and managed by managing director Steve Edmunds who said: "This is obviously a major investment for our company.

The increased capacity and new equipment will provide much greater production flexibility and will allow us to maintain the highest possible quality standards with fast deliveries of prototypes and high volume quantities.

I am sure that this will be of great benefit to all our customers.".
