In-process gauging added to balancing
control

Feinmess in-process gauging equipment can now be closely integrated with Schmitt Europe's advanced grinding wheel balancing and acoustic emissions monitoring systems using a single control unit.

The close integrated of Feinmess in-process gauging equipment with Schmitt Europe's advanced grinding wheel balancing and acoustic emissions monitoring systems - using a single control unit - will be the focus of the companies' joint presentation on Stand 165 at the Grindtec 2004 Exhibition in Augsburg from 17th to 20th March 2004 The introduction of a purpose-designed PCB card for gauging operations, which simply slots into one of four available channels in Schmitt's proven SB-4500 electronic controller, enables up to four grinding wheel balancers, in-process gauging heads, or acoustic emissions monitoring systems (AEMS) to be operated in any combination

The new Schmitt PCB card has been developed in close collaboration with German-based gauging and inspection equipment specialist, Feinmess Dresden, following the signing of a joint marketing agreement between the two companies earlier in the year.

"It represents the marriage of best-in-class technologies across both organisations' areas of expertise", says Schmitt's European Operations Manager, Dean White.

"As a result, we can now offer customers fully integrated systems - covering everything from vibration control and precision measurement to in-process gauging and monitoring - all from a single source".

The companies' joint display at Grindtec will also highlight the full range of Feinmess control units and modular measuring heads, which can be used singly or in combination to produce customised automatic gauging stations for the fast and accurate inspection of machined components.

Other products on show will include Schmitt's AEMS acoustic emissions monitoring system.

This not only eliminates unproductive gap time from grinding cycles - enabling productivity to be increased by around 20% in most applications - but also continuously monitors wheel condition and automatically detects machine crash conditions.

In addition, Schmitt will be featuring new developments in its grinding wheel balancing systems range, including a cost-competitive controls upgrade kit for the popular Hofmann Hydrokompenser system, as well as its recently introduced, semi-automatic grinding wheel balancer.

This low-cost, entry-level system brings the benefits of accurate balancing to the wide range of applications that don't demand the ultimate speed or precision of a fully automatic system.

Nevertheless, by drawing on the proven technology of Schmitt's top-of-the-range balancing solutions, it achieves considerably faster and more accurate balancing than manual methods - making it an ideal choice for general machine shop use.

Further Schmitt Europe balancing solutions on display at Grindtec will include automatic external, in-spindle and ring balancers, portable balance units and the company's latest range of manual, semi and fully automatic component balancing systems. Request a free brochure from Schmitt Europe ...
