New capacity at Superform Aluminium offers formed aluminium parts up to 10mm thick.

New capacity at Superform Aluminium offers formed aluminium parts up to 10mm thick With the completion of a new GBP 1 million investment by the Luxfer Group at its Worcester, UK, production facility, Superform Aluminium now offers an unrivalled capacity that includes the manufacture of panels up to 3 x 2 x 0.6m in aluminium up to 10mm thick

Andrew Lowerson, Superfom's Sales Manager said: "Following rapid growth over the last few years we have more than doubled our capacity with the latest investments in forming and trimming facilities".

"This, combined with our ongoing technical developments in CADCAM, welding and fabrication now lets us handle projects that even just a year or two ago would have been impossible or uneconomical", he said.

The new forming facility now allows parts of up to 10mm in thickness to be formed, and this has already opened up new applications for the superforming process, from defence applications to pressure vessels and bulk liquid transportation and storage.

"We are particularly excited about the possibilities offered by our new forming capability - not only can we handle an unprecedented part thickness of 10mm, but this also means that our "normal" thinner parts can be formed much more efficiently, so reducing our lead times and offering much potential for cost reductions", said Lowerson, "already, some customers have seen reductions of as much as 25% on certain parts".
