Leyland's endorsement pitched the firm, which manufactures specialist components for various industries including the automotive sector, up against well-known names in the automotive industry like Formbend and Advanced Finishing Technologies.
Joint MD Phil Smith explained why he felt SPE had been nominated for the award.
He said: "Our company has put a number of measures in place, all based on lean manufacturing principles, to make us more efficient.
"We had to do this to compete with our more established rivals, and ensure we held on to customers like Leyland, who expect their suppliers to deliver when they need a quick turn-around on an order, for instance".
"To have one of our major customers nominate us for the award shows that our efforts are working, and for it to come from such a prestigious company makes it extra special".
"The more efficient we become, the more work we will get, which can only be good for us and the North Staffordshire economy as a whole".
