Sumitomo reckons its new Hyponic is set to change the power transmission industry's way of thinking by 90 degrees.

Sumitomo reckons its new Hyponic is set to change the power transmission industry's way of thinking by 90 degrees Still fresh from its highly successful launch in Asia and America, the new Neo Hyponic range of right-angle shaft gearmotors is now in stock and available throughout Europe

And Sumitomo Cyclo Europe is expecting similar success with its European launch, with an even more competitive, compact and cost effective product.

Offering an unrivalled space-saving design, thanks to overall reductions in the complete model range, the Neo Hyponic boasts a highly compact and modular right-angle geared motor.

The Hyponic drive provides higher reduction ratios than conventional bevel, and bevel-helical geared motors.

This allows for greater efficiency throughout the complete range of ratios, which range from 5:1 to 1440:1.

Thanks to larger contact intervals, compared with more traditional bevel based gears, the Neo Hyponic drive provides a greater transmission capacity, resulting in silent, smooth and vibration-free operation.

Constructed from molybdenum steel and additionally treated with case hardening the Neo Hyponic stands up to the ever-increasing loads in today's demanding applications.

The integration of the motor shaft and the hypoid pinion, coupled with an aluminium alloy casing, creates a lighter, more compact drive solution (on average a 30% weight reduction compared with conventional models).

The shaft-mounted Neo Hyponic has been developed to offer interchangeability with all the major European manufacturers' products.

Long-life grease allows uninterrupted operation without the need to change the grease at regular intervals.

Installation is available at any desired angle, and is grease filled for life, making it ideal for remote and/or awkwardly located applications.

The new Neo Hyponic drive is available with a large variety of motors and ratios, with further combinations and mounting options available.

Standard stock options include "bolt-on" feet, "plug-in" solid output shafts, torque arms, output mounting flanges and safety covers.

Complying with all international standards for both indoor and outdoor use (UL, CE marked), the range includes special explosion proof designs, and a one-touch brake release, with other specifications available on request.

All motor designs are available including single phase as well as three phase.

Typical applications include: conveyor lines in breweries, driving trucks, crushers, dehydrators, wood shaving machines, swarf conveyors, baggage handling and sorting equipment.

Meeting the strict criteria demanded by most of today's food processing plants, Sumitomo has developed a product that complies with these arduous standards.

Standard features include: maintenance free for life using MAF and FDA approved fluids; finish painted with a two pack water thinned epoxy coating, white in colour, resistant to most chemicals and solvents, and inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi; and all exterior fasteners are manufactured in stainless-steel materials.

In additional Sumitomo offers these geared motors with the following options: motors to IP56 suitable for use in high-powered hose applications; motors to IP65 for protection against the ingress of dust particles, normally associated with bakeries and flour mills; and Harting connectors for ease of connection.

Direct installation using the hollow bore shaft option (with torque arm) eliminates the need for sprockets, chains, V-belts, and other coupling equipment.

The drive can also bolt direct onto the structure via the case design.

Sumitomo's UK Sales Manager, Allan Findlow, is enthusiastic about the new Neo Hyponic, and very optimistic concerning its potential impact in a competitive European market: "The new Neo Hyponic is an extremely strong product, and has already been established in the Asian and American markets.

This coupled with the new options and standards available in the UK, should see us make in roads into this ever increasing market sector.

Our excellent sales network throughout the UK and Europe makes me confident that this new addition to our product portfolio will offer an even more cost effective, high quality solution to cater for all our customers application needs, locally".
